Spam

Spam is, simply stated, e-mail that is repeatedly being sent to you without your permission. And it doesn't give you any way to inform the person sending it that you want them to stop sending you their message. If you get a message one time, and it has a valid link for you to click on to successsfully unsubscribe and stop the sending of any future e-mails, then that is not spam. Of course there are other legal requirements, such as having a phone number and address someplace, but remember I said we were going to keep this simple. We are not trying to write a book on how to be compliant with all the myriad laws that everyone seems to think we need for everything from soup to nuts. Rather our focus will be on what we can do, ourselves, to solve our own problems.

Spam is more than just a nuisance. Besides clogging up our e-mail inbox folders, it can also be very harmful to our computers and to our safety on the Internet. It can contain viruses, worms, Trojan horses, spyware and ad ware, just to name the most obvious things.

So, if you even suspect you have something that might be spam, just delete it. And if it has an attachment to it, absolutely DO NOT OPEN IT! Taking the correct and safe action here can solve a lot of problems later on.
