Pharming

Pharming simply means that the web site you thought you were on is not really the one you had planned to be on. Someone has hacked into that site and redirected you to a bogus site. How can you tell? Well, typically, if you have your browser set up right, and that will vary from system to system, you will have a window pop up that tells you this site has an invalid server certificate. Run Away! Run Away! Run Away! That's playing it safe. If you really need to contact the organization on that site, then get their number via a valid service, such as telephone information, and call them to let them know of the trouble you had. That way they can fix what needs fixing and you have played it safe. Your identity has been saved by your prudent action.
